What is Global Gateway?

Mason Global Gateway is a unique, innovative, and affordable global experience specifically designed for freshman students. Students selected for a Gateway can choose from among several prestigious institutions of higher learning around the world at which to study during their freshman spring semester. These institutions are situated in some of the most exciting international cities and span across the globe.

Program Features

  • Mason Global Gateway is specifically designed for freshman students with a curriculum to allow students to satisfy many of their freshman core requirements, while taking advantage of local expertise.
  • The experiential learning model offers the experience of living abroad while still taking Mason classes and studying with Mason students.
  • During the first semester (Fall), students will take a GEOC 108 course on the Fairfax campus with fellow Gateway peers.
  • In their second semester (Spring), students study abroad at a prestigious institution of higher learning.
  • Gateway students return to Mason with a skill set that sets them apart. They will have developed an understanding of different cultures, managed ambiguity, gained self-confidence, and now bring global perspectives to their studies and embody the Mason vision of a university for the world.
