Overview

What is Global Gateway?

Mason Global Gateway is a unique, innovative, and affordable global experience specifically designed for first-year students. Students selected for a Gateway can choose from among several prestigious institutions of higher learning around the world at which to study during their first-year spring semester. These institutions are situated in some of the most exciting international cities and span across the globe.

Program Features

  • Mason Global Gateway is specifically designed for first-year students with a curriculum to allow students to satisfy many of their freshman core requirements, while taking advantage of local expertise.
  • The experiential learning model offers the experience of living abroad while still taking Mason classes and studying with Mason students.
  • During the first semester (Fall), students will take a GEOC 108 course on the Fairfax campus with fellow Gateway peers.
  • In their second semester (Spring), students study abroad at a prestigious institution of higher learning.
  • Gateway students return to Mason with a skill set that sets them apart. They will have developed an understanding of different cultures, managed ambiguity, gained self-confidence, and now bring global perspectives to their studies and embody the Mason vision of a university for the world.

Student Support Throughout

  • On-site support while abroad: Global Gateway team is available by email, instant messenger, and provides a 24/7 emergency number.
  • Mason GEOC instructor travels to the destination to help with airport arrival, housing move-in, and first week of courses.
