Finances and Scholarship

Tuition and Housing Charges

Students will pay their normal (in-state or out-of-state) tuition. There is only one Gateway housing fee charged for the spring semester; students do not pay an additional housing fee for Fairfax campus housing.

Financial Aid can be used for the Global Gateway program. In addition, students will receive a scholarship for this program (FAFSA required).

Global Gateway Scholarship

  • If you are participating in a Global Gateway program that is not Mason Korea, you will receive this scholarship.
  • There is no application. The scholarship is automatically added to the spring Mason tuition bill.
  • The scholarship for in-state and international students is set at $1,000.
  • The scholarship for out-of-state students ranges between $1,000 and $4,000. Out-of-state students will be notified of the amount of their scholarship in October.

A FAFSA form MUST be completed in order to receive the Global Gateway Scholarship.

  • Scholarships will be placed on each student’s Spring student account 10 days before the start of the Spring semester, acting as a tuition reduction scholarship.
  • Students who have a positive balance on their student account following the application of the scholarship may choose to have any remaining funds deposited into a personal bank account for use for their semester abroad.

The VA does not authorize the use of their benefits to pay for study abroad through Global Gateway, with the exception of Mason Korea.
