FAQ Global Internships

About Global Internships

There are partner travel, virtual, and hybrid opportunities during the Summer and Semester. Build Your Own Internships are for Summer, Semester, or Winter Break. Check out the available career fields.
Both options are available depending on the program.
You take an asynchronous George Mason course while interning. Default and alternative credit options are available.
GEO will register you for the course, you will NOT self-register. The course grade counts towards the overall GPA.
Program-specific requirements are listed on brochure pages. Students have to be in good standing with the university and cannot have account holds. Most internships are in English. International students are eligible. Non-George Mason students or recent graduates are eligible for many programs.

Interning and Living Abroad

There are two rounds of acceptance: by George Mason and by Placement Partners. You are guaranteed an internship placement. You will interview with potential employers by video calls and receive an offer. Your internship might not be confirmed until a few days before the program start date. Late placement is not an accepted reason for a withdrawal refund.
Students are typically placed with small or medium-sized companies or organizations in one of their top selected professional fields. Check out the available internship company examples.
Depending on the program, you would live in a shared apartment, dormitory, or a homestay. For Build Your Own Internship, you are responsible for finding your own housing.
Students are enrolled in George Mason University’s travel insurance program, provided they enter information into the Mason Abroad Travel Registration System.
For travel programs, visa process details are listed on individual program brochures.
Airfare is not included in the program cost and it is the student's responsibility to secure a flight.
You don’t travel abroad with a group, but there might be other George Mason students interning in the same city as you.
